Newest Americans

Express Newark Partner, Newest Americans is in the midst of a project that will become a roving story lab.   The bus, an old Econoline Cutaway, will contain a sound booth and portrait studio designed to gather audiovisual histories from people who reside and work in the city. The exterior of the bus will be a striking, colorful artwork on wheels that draws attention when it rolls into schools, street fairs, churches and community centers. Designed by local artists, the bus is intended to evoke myriad cultural heritage and vibrancy of Newark.

The Story Bus is the brainchild collaboration of writers, filmmakers, photographers and educators who came together five years ago to document Newark’s exceptional diversity. The project is a partnership between Talking Eyes (an award-winning documentary production company), VII Photo (a collection of some of the most accomplished photojournalists working today), and Rutgers University-Newark.

Stay tuned for more updates on the roving story lab!!
