Community Media Center
Express Newark Community Media Center
Express Newark, a university–community Collaboratory, and the Community Media Center (CMC) are pleased to announce two opportunities to learn and hone your skills as a filmmaker, editor and producer. These opportunities provide a place to engage the community in an artistic environment through storytelling in Express Newark, located in the former Hahne & Company Department Store. In addition to the access to specialized equipment, systems and applications detailed below, Express Newark also offers access to the fourth-floor reception lounge, conference room, meeting and production spaces.
Community Partners and Community Residents are responsible for their own tech support and are expected to make presentations to Rutgers University-Newark Video Department students as a requirement of the program. Schedule permitting, Partners and Residents are encouraged to allow students to sit in during edit sessions. In addition to the spaces detailed below, Community Partners and Community Residents will be given access to the production studio to be scheduled in collaboration with Video Production program staff.
The CMC Partner will have full access to the Editing Lab, private Artist Studio for 2 days of the week, conference room upon reservation, and access to the fourth-floor reception lounge of Express Newark. The Artist Studio has a large screen monitor and iMac Retina 5K for playback.
The Community Partner will be responsible for supervising the Editing Lab’s use by the short-term users (non-resident partners). The CMC Partner will also be responsible for coordinating with Express Newark personnel to organize the scheduling and oversee the use of space by other users.
Initial Partnership duration will be twelve months with an evaluation and possible renewal after first term.
The CMC Resident will have access to an Editing Laboratory, a conference room upon reservations and including access to the reception area on the fourth floor. This residency is open to all people in the greater Newark area. Artists, entrepreneurs, community et cetera are all welcome to apply.
