What We Do
The Community Media Center at Express Newark is a digital storytelling hub for local creators In the Greater Newark area who want to tell community-centered stories through filmmaking and other forms of digital media. Recognizing that some filmmakers may not have access to equipment and space, CMC offers year-long residencies to help local creatives overcome these obstacles by providing hi-tech gear, editing systems, and advance software applications needed to produce high-quality content. Equipment ranging from iMac computers with 5k retina display to studio sound speakers—in addition to the latest software such as Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop—are what residents can look forward to when accepted to a CMC residency.
CMC curates screenings at Express Newark that are free and open to the public. CMC residents offer regular classes for free to the Newark community. From drone photography to basic video editing, students can gain new filmmaking skills and begin to produce their own media.
Who We Are
The Community Media Center at Express Newark is a space where Newark-based creatives come together in a state-of-the-art facility to develop, produce and collaborate on projects. CMC was conceived as a place where media makers can share their expertise with each other and the larger community through classes, screenings, internships and professional development opportunities.
